I love this a latte'

This comic artist is getting sued for the remake of Starbucks classic mermaid logo. Why? details here

What do you think? Should he be sued? As a former ex-barista of Starbucks, I would say he's not far from the truth but man do they make a good Grande, soy, 2 1/2 pump sugar-free vanilla, @ 168 degrees, 1 splenda latte'. Oh and there's supposed to be caramel on that!!!! Why blame the company? Its us! We want our lattes'
And we'll do anything to get them!

I recall this lady who comes in twice a day, everyday. Her drink of preferance was an Iced venti Non-fat, 3 pump mocha, with no whip. Thats about $4.50 a drink. Total = around $9 dollars a day. Well, one day I asked her how things were going (those are the rules, engage with customer and pretent you care), and she told me not so well, she had lost her job about two weeks ago & has had no luck finding another one but there was no way thet she would go with out her drink! (those were her words).
Starbucks is just giving the people what they want! Consumption -
con·sump·tion n
1. the eating or drinking of something, or the amount that a person eats or drinks
2. the use of natural resources or fuels or the amount of resources or fuels used
3. the purchase and use of goods and services by consumers, or the quantity of goods and services purchased
4. any condition that causes progressive wasting of the tissues, especially tuberculosis of the lungs (dated)

Why hide the truth! Be real! Starbucks serve us while we serve ourselves!

Wow. That's so terribly sad. I agree. I mean, everyone has their "Starbucks." I think it's pretty much ridiculous, though.

There is this theory I learned in psych class. It's about contentment and adaptation. Basically, it talks about how anyone one person can be as content as any other person. It doesn't matter where they come from on the income latter, as long as they have the bare, bare necesseties.

Supposedly, everyone has their "setpoint" of happiness. Like, you will never go above it, and stay there. Once you reach adulthood, your personality has formed (excluding religious changes) and your setpoint is "set." So, say you begin with 20K a year. You'll be happy or unhappy. But, say you get a raise to 40K a year. Sure, you'll be happier for a while, but your setpoint returns because you become accustomed to it, and you still see others who have more, so your contentment leaves.

I think this is a very humanistic theory, but as far as unbelievers go, it seems to hold true. So, honestly. Money does not buy happiness. Those lattes don't last long.

Especially when they took the cinnamon dulce latte off. Seriously. What's up with that, yo? That's okay. I don't need a $4 drink.

It's okay. I was required to take general psych for my degree. I hated it. It was like people pulled things out of the air and called it philosophical.

Cinnamon Dolche is Chris' favorite. And by the way, we are told psychology is from the devil (or something like that). But don’t worry, Im still processing that one. Not sure if a two week lecture is enough to sway my view on the subject, completely. I do think that there is a lot wrong with it but that comes with most humanistic theories.
The whole argument comes from the contrast of Scripture being completely sufficient that there is no need for psychology. I agree with the sufficiency of scripture, im just unclear on what that means for most of the psychological field or any field of thought. Im young and this is just one of many areas I have yet to give dilligent study to.
But I did read the intro to Biblical Counseling by Johnny Mac! He's got some good points! I just got to even that out with some liberal views! Right Chris!

back to your original post-

i think it's pretty ironic that Dwyer made this sweet, accurate picture portraying consumerism in America today, and then thought to himself,

"How can I market this... I know- I'll make T-Shirts, stickers, and hats. That should sell it."

Consumerism at its finest.

Also, I loved the picture you hyperlinked us to. I love that the dude on the far left is flipping the camera off.

great job mondo.

(I go to Talbot, so I'm not sure if you want me to comment on the whole psychology thing. We have our own school dedicated to it...i might not see eye to eye with johnny on this one)

I hear you Jim, My comment towards Johnny Mac had minor sarcasms attached to it. I was merely showing my lack of knowledge on the subject. I love Johnny to death and his ministry, but I don’t really know at all where to take the whole psychology thing. It funny because He went to Talbot! Talk about irony. But hey, I’m not going to war on this anytime soon… Got any books that you recommend? You know to mix it up alittle!

TOTALLY JOKING!!! I PROMISE I REALLY DIDNT MEAN THAT!!!!

in fact.. the whole psych thing was a joke from the beginning... i'm shocked that it's taken the conversation in a different direction...

psych isn't from the devil, it's from the germans...
